Specialty’s Cafe & Bakery closing due to the coronavirus. It had 2 Sacramento locations
Specialty’s Cafe & Bakery has announced plans to close all storefronts, citing business losses attributed to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Pleasanton-based company announced through its website that its approximately 50 locations throughout California, Washington and Illinois would shutter for good after the end of business Tuesday. This includes two Sacramento-area locations: 500 Capital Mall downtown and 3075 Prospect Park Drive in Rancho Cordova.
“Specialty’s Cafe & Bakery is closing after 33 years of business. Current market conditions attributed to COVID-19 and shelter-in-place policies have decimated company revenues,” the announcement read.
The statement concluded by detailing plans to cancel and refund orders, in addition to thanking patrons for their business and support.
Specialty’s, which started in its founder’s garage in 1987, first opened in Sacramento in 2014.
More than 50 local restaurants have announced full or partial closures due to the coronavirus in March, while recent dining casualties have come to include the likes of Midtown’s Biba Restaurant and the Folsom Historic District’s Sutter Street Grill.
