Restaurant News & Reviews

These 11 restaurants opened around the Sacramento region in November

November brought change in weather, in elected officials and in local dining.

At least 11 new restaurants opened in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties in the last month.

The list includes two pizzerias, two sushi restaurants and two places that specialize in chicken wings, plus another that’s about all parts of the bird. Muslim dietary standards are also well-represented, with three of the 11 running Halal kitchens.

The new restaurants are:

  • California Express Pizza (8785 Center Parkway, Suite 320B, Sacramento): The Roseville-based pizzeria is known for its halal fusion pies like the taco or chicken tikka pizzas.
  • Chipotle Mexican Grill (2155 Town Center Plaza, Suite 110E, West Sacramento): The Cali-Mex chain opened its newest area location Nov. 24 in Southport Town Center.
  • Culichi Town (7521 W. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove): Sinaloense-style seafood and Japanese/Mexican hybrid sushi rolls dominate Culichi Town’s 100-item menu.

  • Fire Wings (1016 Riley St., Suite 5, Folsom): The local chicken wings chain continued its rapid expansion with its first Folsom location.

  • Fusion (1260 Lake Blvd., Davis): Westlake Market’s prepared food section got a little tastier with the opening of this banh mi/boba/salad shop, which has a primary location in Rancho Cordova.

  • Holy Slice (925 K St., Suite B, Sacramento): Coming in where Darna Mediterranean Kitchen used to be, Holy Slice finishes New York-style pizzas with halal toppings like beef pepperoni and akkawi cheese.

  • Midtown Spirits (1717 19th St., Suite B, Sacramento): Infused vodkas might be the most interesting items at Sacramento’s first post-Prohibition distillery, which also sells salads, loaded hot dogs and charcuterie boards.

  • Mom & Pop Chicken Shop (4355 Town Center Blvd., Suite 114, El Dorado Hills): Nick Dedier and Alexa Hazelton opened their fried chicken emporium a block from their flagship restaurant, Milestone Restaurant & Cocktail Bar.

  • Sociology Coffee Bar (727 Traders Lane, Folsom): This cafe inside Escape Folsom (and at the Folsom Farmers Market on Saturdays) uses Auburn-based Clementine Coffee Roasters products.

  • Sushi Q (1339 Florin Road, Suite 101B, Sacramento): It’s the second location for Sushi Q owners Kimthy Dai and Qui Minhai Tu, whose other Japanese restaurant sits near the Elk Grove border.

  • Wing Mahal (1115 E. Bidwell St., Suite 124, Folsom): Organic, halal chicken wings have an Indian style to them: find flavors like butter chicken, curry masala and Delhi spice alongside lemon pepper and buffalo.

Lastly, Broderick Roadhouse at 319 6th St. in West Sacramento has been converted to a ghost kitchen. The three brands currently operating out of there are Lil’ Joe’s Cheesesteaks (Philadelphia-inspired sandwiches), Poor Boys (think Cajun this time) and Reuben’s Delicatessen (Yolo County’s lone Jewish deli).
