Bee’s Best poll results: Readers say this shop makes Sacramento’s best doughnuts
After more than 15,000 votes, The Sacramento Bee’s readers crowned Donut Time the region’s best doughnut shop. Now the question is: Which one?
There’s the Donut Time owned by Louv Hann Tea in northern Sacramento County, sandwiched between Antelope and North Highlands at 4411 Elkhorn Blvd. A half-hour south lies Donut Time at 9176 Kiefer Blvd. in Rosemont, owned by Christine Oguro, who employs her parents Kim and Peter Pe as the shop’s bakers.
Both have proved popular with customers; Donut Time on Elkhorn has 4.5 stars on Yelp after 97 reviews while the Rosemont shop has a perfect 5 after 178 reviews. Listed as one business in the weeklong Bee poll that concluded at noon Monday, they got 6,668 of 15,127 total votes, or 44.1%.
Land Park institution Marie’s Donut Shop finished second with 4,652 votes (31%). The walk-up stand opened nearly 70 years ago and remains a favorite for classics such as apple fritters and chocolate old-fashioneds.
Next was BAD Bakers, Kate and Vincent Tiuseco’s shop with locations in north Sacramento, Natomas, Elk Grove, Roseville and Folsom in addition to a mobile truck. The Filipino-inspired modern bakery — try the senorita bread or s’moregasbord kronut topped with mini marshmallows — earned 2,205 votes (14.6%).
Stanely Donuts (1.5%), Manley’s Donuts (1.3%), Donuts & Coffey (1.2%) and Baker’s Dozen Donuts (0.7%) all received 100 votes or more.
