Tandoori Pizza, a Bay Area-based pizza chain, is expanding its footprint in the Sacramento region with a new location inside Downtown Commons.

Franchisee Amrit Singh said he and his business partner, Brandon Singh, plan to open the restaurant at 405 K St., replacing the Pizza Press on the second floor near Panda Express. The pair opened a location in Elk Grove earlier this year.

Singh said the downtown restaurant could open as early as late spring.

“I’m very happy for this opportunity and and really grateful to serve the communities around as well,” Singh said. “From businesses to residential to even the people that are coming in on vacations and whatnot, staying at the hotels. I’m very, very excited about the foot traffic and the crowd in a bigger city and metropolitan area that we’re going to be able to serve on a bigger level.”

The opportunity came after the franchise participated in a pop-up during a Sacramento Kings game, Brandon Singh said.

“We sold out by half time, literally,” he said. “I think also selling out pretty fast at that pop up at the King’s game helped us a lot, and really showed us that having Tandoori Pizza in downtown Sacramento would be a great thing for the community because it’s good, flavorful pizza and wings.”

After the game, the franchisees met with a Kings partnership marketing manager who mentioned the space at DOCO was available, Amrit Singh said. They quickly decided to pursue it.

“We’ll be able to go ahead and get the concert crowd as well as the game crowds,” he said. “But besides all that, in midtown Sacramento, there’s a lot of businesses as well that we hope to target, a lot of residential and a lot of hotels that we expect to target in that area.”

The downtown menu will mirror other locations, with 27 pizza options including pepperoni, masala pesto chicken, lamb kabob, and tandoori barbecue. The restaurant also serves chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, pasta, and salads.
