Chando’s Tacos abruptly closes all Sacramento restaurant locations

Longtime Sacramento taco chain Chando’s Tacos shut down abruptly on Tuesday.

Owner Lisandro “Chando” Madrigal said his capital region taquerias would be closed “for now,” when asked at his West Sacramento offices. He said something new would be coming soon, but he did not share how long the restaurants would be closed or when more information would be available.

In a brief statement to The Sacramento Bee, Madrigal thanked Sacramento-area customers for their support throughout the years.

The restaurant’s website was not active, redirecting to Google’s home page, and its main Facebook and Instagram pages were disabled on Tuesday.

The chain operated three restaurants — in North Sacramento, West Sacramento and the Elder Creek neighborhood — as well as a food truck. Madrigal founded the chain in 2010 with the North Sacramento location, at 863 Arden Way.

The chain’s closure comes in the wake of a string of failed locations across the capital region. The Bee previously reported on the restaurant’s Elk Grove and Citrus Heights location closures, as well as its midtown Chando’s Cantina restaurant shuttering in August 2023.

In February, the cantina announced plans to open a new restaurant, replacing Solomon’s at 730 K St. near Downtown Commons. The Chando’s Cantina social media pages and website were still active on Tuesday, and there were no updates on opening plans.

The upcoming Parkside Bar on K Street in downtown Sacramento is slated to serve dishes from a menu designed by Chando’s Tacos starting in September, The Bee reported Sunday.

Chando’s Tacos previously operated locations in East Sacramento, Roseville, Fair Oaks and on the Sacramento State campus, according to previous Bee reporting.
