Sacramento is giving out gift cards if you shop local. Here’s how to get one
Looking to shop local for a Mother’s Day or Father’s Day present? The City of Sacramento is helping out with a gift card promotion.
On Friday, the city announced it is offering deals on its Shop 916 gift cards through mid-summer. Shop 916 is a city initiative selling digital gift cards that can be used at more than 130 participating local Sacramento retailers, restaurants and other businesses.
“The Shop 916 program connects residents with local retailers while supporting small businesses across the city,” said City of Sacramento project development manager Valerie Mamone in a news release. “This promotion provides an added benefit for those planning purchases for upcoming celebrations.”
Here’s what to know about this year’s gift card promotion.
What is Sacramento’s Shop 916 gift card sale?
Kicking off at the beginning of May, the promotion will offer these bonus gift cards with purchase of a full-price card:
- Purchase a $25 gift card, receive a $10 bonus
- Purchase a $50 gift card, receive a $25 bonus
- Purchase a $100 gift card, receive a $50 bonus
According to the city’s news release, gift card buyers can earn up to three bonus gift cards. The promotion will last through July 15, and bonus gift cards must be used by Aug. 31.
Shop 916’s gift card program was launched in 2021, and in the past five years, more than $1.3 million worth of Shop 916 gift cards and bonus cards have been sold, according to the City of Sacramento’s announcement.
Eligible businesses can participate for free. Shop 916 accepts Sacramento companies with fewer than 500 full-time employees, excluding home-based businesses, franchises, liquor-only stores and cannabis businesses.
A list of all 131 businesses that accept Shop 916 gift cards is available on the program’s website.
