Midtown wine bar and restaurant to close after more than 20 years in Sacramento

58 Degrees & Holding Co., a midtown restaurant and bar famous for its wine catalog, is closing May 31, according to the business’s management.

Having spent more than 20 years on 1217 18th St., 58 Degrees told The Sacramento Bee about its closure on Thursday afternoon.

The same day, 58 Degrees released a bittersweet public statement on social media about its closure. What began as a humble wine bar, “became so much more” because of its customers, the owners wrote.

“We’ve shared countless meals, celebrations, conversations, and memories together,” the restaurant wrote on social media. “We are endlessly grateful for every guest who walked through our doors and every team member who made this place special.”

New owners took over in 2017 and expanded the wine collection, serving “high quality” wine from across the world, according to its website. The restaurant said it honors Sacramento’s Farm to Fork roots and features a seasonal menu from local farms.

“We pride ourselves as the place (where) experiences become a lifestyle,” the online statement read. “Our priority remains to be friendly and professional guest service paired with continued education and discipline that sets us apart from the rest in the industry.”

Cassie Kelsey, the general manager, said many of the staff have worked there since the bar’s beginning in 2004. She said she started as a server and that working with the restaurant has been an “incredible experience.”

“I loved working here,” Kelsey said.

In online remarks about closing, the owners thanked their customers for the bar’s success.

“Thank you for your support, your loyalty and for allowing us to be part of your lives over the years,” the owners wrote.

58 Degrees will remain open until its closing date.
