Motorcyclist, 28, ejected and killed after rear-ending car on Watt Avenue, CHP says
A motorcyclist was ejected and died following a crash Tuesday night on Watt Avenue in North Highlands, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The rider, a 28-year-old North Highlands man, was riding a 2010 BMW motorcycle southbound on Watt Avenue “at a high rate of speed” around 7:50 p.m. when the motorcycle rear-ended a Toyota Corolla, the CHP North Sacramento office said in a news release. The crash happened just north of Karl Drive.
The ejected motorcyclist came to rest in the fast lane of southbound Watt, and was transported to a hospital where he pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m., the CHP said.
The Toyota driver remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators and was not arrested, according to the CHP’s news release, which said drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash.
The collision and initial investigation closed the affected stretch of southbound Watt for nearly two hours, reopening around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to the news release.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
The fatal incident remains under investigation. Any potential witnesses or anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact CHP North Sacramento at 916-348-2300 or 916-798-0975.
