88-year-old pedestrian hit by car in south Sacramento dies at hospital, authorities say
A pedestrian hit by a car last week in south Sacramento succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, and was identified this week by the coroner as an 88-year-old Sacramento man.
The victim, identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Donald Nelson, was struck around 3:15 p.m. last Tuesday on Mack Road, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
A vehicle struck the pedestrian near the intersection with Valley Hi Drive and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Police Department spokesman Officer Karl Chan said. It was not known whether the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit.
Nelson was hospitalized in critical condition and died later Tuesday, according to police and the Coroner’s Office.
Chan said drugs or alcohol did not appear to be factors in the collision, and no arrests were announced by the Police Department.
