Sacramento County Coroner’s Office releases name of motorcyclist in fatal I-80 crash
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office on Monday released the name of a 39-year-old woman who died after her motorcycle crashed early Sunday on Interstate 80 near Citrus Heights.
Shanel Allyn Griffin of Sacramento died in the motorcycle crash about 12:20 a.m. on I-80 just west of Greenback Lane. A CHP news release on Sunday mistakenly listed the woman’s age at 25.
The North Sacramento-area California Highway Patrol Office has said the crash involved an unknown number of vehicles. On Monday, the Coroner’s Office listed Griffin’s death as a hit-and-run crash.
Griffin, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. About 90 minutes after the crash, hospital officials told CHP officers that the woman died.
Griffin was riding a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja west on I-80 just west of Greenback Lane around 12:23 a.m. when the crash occurred. CHP investigators have not determined the cause of crash or the circumstances surrounding the fatal wreck.
