A truck crashed into a school building Friday in Grass Valley after hitting a pedestrian who reportedly died in the crash, according to authorities and news reports.

The incident occurred in the 200 block of South Auburn Street near Highway 49, the Nevada City Fire Department announced on its Facebook page about 5 p.m. Friday. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found two people; one outside the truck and another trapped inside the vehicle.

Fire officials said the person found outside the truck was dead. Firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” equipment to free the person trapped inside the truck. That person was taken by ambulance to Sutter Medical Center in Roseville.

The truck crashed into an exterior wall of the Grass Valley Charter School, and investigators believe the truck struck a pedestrian before crashing into the school, The Union reported. The newspaper also reported that the pedestrian who died in the crash was a woman.

Authorities on Friday evening had not released any identifying information about either of the people found at the crash scene. The Grass Valley Police Department and California Highway Patrol were investigating the incident, fire officials said.
