Patient flown for treatment after boating accident on Sacramento River, officials say

Police tape at crime scene

One person was flown to a hospital for medical treatment after a boating accident on the Sacramento River on Sunday morning.

Sacramento Fire Department officials said the accident occurred around 10 a.m. and required a helicopter to help rescue the two people aboard the boat.

Fire Captain Dave Lauchner said the fishing boat, which was just south of the Interstate 5 bridge near the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers, was mostly submerged by 1 p.m., with only the tip sticking out of the water.

While one of the people on the boat refused medical treatment, the other had to be flown to a nearby facility for their injuries, Lauchner said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, which has since been turned over to law enforcement and Coast Guard personnel, according to Lauchner.
