One killed, six injured after three-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Woodland
One person was killed and at least six others injured after a crash Wednesday on Interstate 5 in Woodland, authorities said.
The crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. on southbound I-5 near the East Main Street exit in Woodland, the California Highway Patrol’s Woodland office said in a news release.
The collision involved a 2010 Toyota, 2017 Volkswagen and 2007 Ford, all driven by Oregon residents, the CHP said.
The Volkswagen was stopped behind the Toyota due to traffic when the Ford approached from behind, attempting to stop but failing to brake in time, according to the CHP collision report. The Ford rear-ended the Volkswagen, sending it into the Toyota.
The right-front passenger in the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Six other occupants of the three vehicles were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, including two children.
The 71-year-old Volkswagen driver, a 70-year-old passenger in the Toyota, and the 32-year-old driver of the Ford plus three passengers in the Ford — a 29-year-old woman and two brothers ages 1 and 7 — were all treated for minor injuries.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected, the CHP said, and no arrests have been made. All involved parties were reportedly wearing seat belts.
Southbound I-5 was reduced to one lane in the area, stalling traffic for more than two hours Wednesday evening. All lanes have since reopened.
