Pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle in North Sacramento area, police say
A pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a North Sacramento neighborhood Sunday night was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to officials.
Officers were dispatched just after 9 p.m. when the Sacramento Police Department received reports of a vehicle collision with a pedestrian near Marysville Boulevard and Sonoma Avenue in the city’s Hagginwood neighborhood, police said.
The woman suffered major injuries and was transported to the nearest hospital by the Sacramento Fire Department, where she was declared dead, authorities said.
The driver of the vehicle in the collision remained on scene, police said. Detectives from the department’s major collision investigation unit responded to investigate the scene. The investigation is ongoing, a Sacramento Police Department spokesperson said.
The woman was identified Tuesday as Aesjah Penn, 27, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
