More rain, snow to hit over multiple days in Sacramento and Tahoe. Here’s the latest
This weekend in Sacramento may be the last chance to enjoy clear skies before a five-day rainy streak rolls through the region.
The National Weather Service predicts showers will start after 10 p.m. Monday and last through at least Friday. There’s a lingering chance of of light precipitation on Saturday, said Katie Forrest, a weather service meteorologist.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center anticipates a “moderate risk” of heavy snow in the Sierra next Thursday as most of California will have a 20 to 40% chance of heavy precipitation.
Don’t forget to clean your gutters, the service urged.
How much rain can we expect in Sacramento?
Downtown Sacramento has a 43% chance of seeing two or more inches of rain between Tuesday and Friday of next week, Forrest said. In the foothills, there is a 40% to 60% chance of two inches or more of rainfall.
“During the Tuesday-Friday time period there may be some instances of localized heavy rains,” Forrest said. “We still don’t have all the details about it yet.”
High temperatures will be in the low 60s and dip into the 40s overnight.
What about snow in Tahoe?
Meteorologists forecast a chance of snow starting Monday night in Tahoe, according to the weather service.
As of Friday, the snow levels are forecast in the Sierra between 5,500 feet to 6,500 feet, Forrest said.
“Snow levels have trended up in the last couple of days,” Forrest said. “So it’s likely the system will continue to be warmer than what was originally thought.”
High temperatures will remain in the upper 50s through the week, according to the weather service, and dip to the 20s overnight.
Any updates on ski resorts?
For ski resorts in the Tahoe area, more snowfall is always good news.
Some resorts, including Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, opened earlier than anticipated kicking off opening day on Friday.
More will open next week, including Heavenly Ski Resort and Boreal Mountain California.
