Driver facing DUI charges in Orangevale rollover wreck that injured 3 youths
The driver in a rollover wreck onto an Orangevale lawn that injured three children including a 6-month-old boy, and left a woman in critical condition Wednesday night is facing felony DUI and child endangerment charges in the crash, said California Highway Patrol officials.
The man was driving a Honda Odyssey on Chestnut Avenue north of Chestwall Street about 8:55 p.m., when he lost control of the car causing it to tumble into a tree in the Orangevale home’s yard, said Officer Trent Senter, a spokesman in the highway patrol’s East Sacramento office.
The children, a 4-year-old girl, and two boys, ages 3, and, 6 months, each had mild to moderate injuries. A woman, 23, was critically injured in the wreck, Senter said.
The unidentified 21-year-old driver was not hurt in the wreck on the 6100 block of Chestnut Avenue, but Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews had to cut the driver and passengers free of the wreckage and rush them to area hospitals, said Metro Fire officials.
Photos from Metro Fire crews at the scene show how close the driver came to causing further injury. The car came to rest just feet from the Orangevale home.
Highway Patrol officers arrested the driver at the scene on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol and felony child endangerment. His name was not released.
