Early morning turkey deep-fry fire displaces 8 in Carmichael, Sacramento authorities say

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a duplex fire caused by a fried turkey cooking gone wrong in Carmichael.

As a result of the fire, eight people were displaced and major damage was caused to the housing unit. Several dogs were rescued.

The fire occurred at 10:40 a.m. on Rye Way and caused moderate damage to a nearby unit

The fire started in the housing unit’s garage and spread into the home’s living space, Metro Fire reported.

The American Red Cross Gold Country Region is working with those impacted by the fire to “have the resources to get back on their feet” they stated online.

While frying a turkey, Metro Fire suggests keeping fryers at least 10 feet away from structures outside, to avoid water and to keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
