The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District rescued a golden doodle mix who got stuck in the Fair Oaks bluffs Thursday evening.

The dog, named Charlie, had wandered off from his home in Fair Oaks Thanksgiving night. While exploring, he found himself trapped in the steep terrains of the bluffs in in the area, officials reported.

“He put himself in a pretty crummy spot and couldn’t get back up,” said Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn, the public information officer for Metro Fire. “I think he was trying to work his way down the bluffs towards safety, but he couldn’t get himself up and out.”

Charlie was rescued by Metro Fires’s Heavy Rescue team and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle team. Thanks to the use of a high angle technical rescue operation, Charlie was brought down safely to the UAV team’s boat on the river.

Charlie has been returned to his owner without injuries. After being rescued, he received a fresh bath and a Thanksgiving dinner with his family, Wilbourn said.
