Inmate dies after being found unresponsive at South Lake Tahoe jail, El Dorado sheriff says

An inmate found unresponsive in a jail cell in South Lake Tahoe died Friday, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

Employees with the Sheriff’s Office found an unresponsive man about 5:30 a.m. The man received medical aid but was pronounced dead, the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.

The El Dorado County Coroner’s Office will identify the man once his family has been notified.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, with assistance from the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the Placerville Police Department, authorities said.
