Sacramento police arrest DUI suspect after pedestrian was hit, killed in South Natomas
Sacramento police said a motorist driving under the influence struck and killed a woman walking near a South Natomas intersection Friday evening.
Responding to a call, officers found both the driver, who is a 50-year-old man, and the pedestrian just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Northgate Boulevard and Turnstone Drive.
“Officers provided emergency medical medical aid to the victim until relieved by Sacramento Fire Department personnel,” the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release. “Despite these efforts, the victim was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.”
After officers determined the driver was under the influence, he was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail where he was booked, the news release said.
The victim’s identity is being withheld until the Sacramento County coroner notifies her family.
Detectives from the Police Department’s Major Collision Investigations Unit and crime scene investigators took over the investigation, processing the scene, canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses, said Officer Allison Smith, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department. Roadways in the area reopened early Saturday morning.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation was asked to call the Police Department’s dispatch center at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357, Smith said. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
The well-traveled intersection, near the Foods Co. grocery store, lies in the South Natomas and Gardenland neighborhoods.
