Sacramento airport is adding direct flights to Alaska for first time. When do they start?

Sacramento-area travelers will soon be able to fly directly to Alaska for the first time.

Alaska Airlines will begin offering nonstop flights from Sacramento International Airport to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport this summer, Sacramento airport officials said in a Monday news release.

Stephen Clark, deputy director of airport commercial development at the Sacramento County Department of Airports, said in the release that he is “thrilled” to add Anchorage as a destination for local travelers.

“This new route reflects the strong partnerships we’ve built to deliver travel options that balance the needs of our business community and the growing demand for family-friendly and leisure destinations,” Clark said. “It’s another step in our commitment to serving our region with convenient and exciting travel opportunities.”

When do the seasonal flights start? And how long will they last?

Here’s what we know:

When do direct flights from Sacramento to Alaska start?

Direct round-trip flights from Sacramento to Anchorage will be available on a weekly basis beginning Saturday, June 14, the Sacramento County Department of Airports said.

The flights, which will take place on Saturdays, will be available through Saturday, Aug. 16, according to Alaska Airlines.

“Summer is a tremendous time to visit the great land of Alaska with our long, warm days, tremendous culture and adventure, and amazing wild Alaska seafood,” Marilyn Romano, regional vice president of Alaska at Alaska Airlines, said in a news release. “There’s so much to do around Anchorage, and the city is a perfect jumping-off point to venture out to communities across the state, as well as hopping on a cruise.”

Nonstop Anchorage flights mean no layovers

Alaska Airlines’ nonstop flights from Sacramento will allow travelers to land “right in the heart of Alaska,” skipping a layover, according to Kirsten Amrine, the airline’s vice president of network planning and revenue management.

“Our new routes provide guests with more options than ever to vacation this summer in the great state of Alaska,” Amrine said in the release.

Where else can I fly nonstop via Alaska Airlines?

With the addition of the Anchorage flights, Sacramento International Airport will offer more than 190 daily direct flights on 12 domestic and international carriers — connecting travelers to 36 destinations across the globe by July, a news release said.

In January, Alaska Airlines added seasonal nonstop flights to Orlando and Tuscon, Arizona, as well as Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

Service to those popular winter getaways ends in April, The Sacramento Bee previously reported.

As of Monday, Alaska Airlines was accepting online flight reservations through Thursday, Dec. 11

Are other airlines offering new flights in 2025?

Alaska Airlines isn’t the only carrier offering new direct flights in 2025.

Southwest Airlines will launch nonstop service between Sacramento and Tucson, Arizona, in March — along with daily flights to Maui and Kona in Hawaii.

Also in March, Southwest Airlines will begin offering daily red-eye service from Sacramento to Baltimore, company spokesman Chris Perry previously told The Bee.

Overnight flights from Sacramento to Orlando via Southwest Airlines will begin in June, Perry said.
