Multiple lanes of Highway 50 in Sacramento County are expected to be closed for an estimated six hours Saturday after an Amazon semitruck collided with the concrete barrier separating eastbound and westbound traffic, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office, the two left lanes of eastbound Highway 50, east of Howe Avenue, have been closed for repairs to the traffic barrier, while lanes 3 through 5 remain open. The left lane of westbound Howe Avenue is also closed.

The collision occurred shortly after 9:20 a.m. Saturday, according to the CHP’s online activity log.

A 24-foot Amazon truck was heading west on Highway 50 when it hydroplaned and smashed through the concrete barrier, ending up on the eastbound side, according to the CHP.

In an update just before 12:30 p.m., CHP South Sacramento said the two eastbound and lanes and westbound fast lane would remain closed for repairs for about another six hours.

The CHP did not report any injuries in the collision.

The hydroplaning crash came as an atmospheric river storm is dropping significant rainfall across the capital region this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for large portions of Northern California due to heavy precipitation in the forecast.
