Three under arrest in 2024 Sacramento double slaying

Bars from a jail cell frame a door being locked.

Three men are under arrest on murder charges in the November double slaying of a Sacramento man and woman, Sacramento police officials announced Wednesday.

Jakiem Gerard Halstead, 26, of Marysville; and Isreal Melcheside Murray, 24, of Sacramento, are being held without bail in Sacramento County custody.

Halstead, a convicted felon, faces a murder charge and a second charge of possessing a firearm as a felon. Murray also faces a murder charge in the fatal shootings; and a charge of possessing a firearm as a felon. Halstead and Murray await an April 25 date in Sacramento Superior Court.

They will soon be joined by Murray’s brother, also tied to the shootings. Easis Murray, 23, of Henderson, Nevada, was arrested by Las Vegas authorities on suspicion of homicide-related charges, and is expected to be extradited back to Sacramento, Sacramento Police Department officials said.

The arrests come nearly five months to the day of the Nov. 19 shooting deaths in the 3800 block of Northgate Boulevard.

Officers last November were called just after 6 p.m. to the scene on Northgate to find the wounded man and woman. Both had been shot at least once and later died at the scene.

“Our detectives have been relentless in identifying and locating the suspects responsible for these two murders,” Sacramento police said in a statement announcing the arrests. “These arrests underscore the commitment that the Sacramento Police Department maintains in holding those who victimize our community responsible for their actions.”
