A woman died Monday night after being struck by a light rail train near the Marconi Station in North Sacramento, authorities said.

Sacramento Regional Transit officials, Sacramento police and fire personnel responded around 9:30 p.m. to the 3000 block of Academy Way in Cannon Industrial Park, where they found the victim. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

RT officials said in a statement that the woman, who was believed to be unhoused, was walking on the tracks about 300 yards south of Marconi Station when she was hit by a northbound Blue Line train heading into the station.

The agency described the incident as “tragic” and said an investigation into the circumstances was ongoing.

Her identity is expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office in the coming days.
