Divers search for man who jumped off Knights Landing bridge into Sacramento River

Missing person incident depicts emergency personnel in boat on water

A man who jumped from the Knights Landing Bridge into the Sacramento River on Tuesday evening remained missing Wednesday, as Sutter County Sheriff’s Office divers shifted to a recovery operation.

Deputies said they believe the man did not survive and referred to the ongoing efforts as a “search and recovery operation.”

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday near Locust and Front streets in Knights Landing, a Yolo County community along the border with Sutter County. The man was seen jumping from the bridge into the river with another man, who resurfaced safely, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

“Bridge jumping was not uncommon behavior for these men,” officials stated.

The missing man’s identity will not be released until his body is recovered and next of kin are notified, the agency said.
