Sacramento airport adds direct flights to popular Mexican city. See ticket prices

Planning a trip? You can now fly directly from Sacramento International Airport to a popular Mexican destination.

Volaris Airlines began offering non-stop flights to Morelia, Michoacan, in Mexico on Friday, July 4, according to a news release from the Sacramento airport.

The Sacramento airport offers more than 150 daily direct flights on 12 airlines to about three dozen destinations in the United States, Mexico and Canada, according to the airport’s website.

Cindy Nichol, director of the Sacramento County Department of Airports, described Morelia as “a city with deep connections to our Sacramento community.”

The central Mexican city is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture and farm-to-table cuisine.

“This route not only enhances connectivity to Mexico but also supports economic growth by facilitating trade and tourism between our regions,” Nichol said in the release. “Passengers with ties to Mexico are now provided with a convenient travel option, while business and tourism opportunities between the two regions continue to be fostered.”

Holger Blankenstein, Volaris Airlines executive vice president, said the new flight “strengthens ties with familial roots and loved ones on both sides of the border.”
