A Sacramento teen who drowned while swimming in the Mokelumne River at Lodi Lake in Lodi last week has been identified by San Joaquin County coroner’s officials.

Ivan Holmes was 14. The boy was last seen in the river about 4:45 p.m., July 3, said Lodi Police Department officials. Officers received a call that Ivan was missing in the water and arrived minutes later with Lodi Fire Department personnel and San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies.

Divers and responders aboard boats and kayaks searched the lake before finding his body submerged about 100 feet from the lake’s banks in an open area of the river, the Lodi News-Sentinel reported.

Their search ended a couple of hours later with the boy’s recovery, officials said.

Now the teen whose family and friends call Chace are raising funds to lay him to rest.

“My family & I really appreciate everyone who reaches out with prayers & donations for my beloved little brother,” said sister GerRae Easter, in a GoFundMe appeal posted this week organized by family friend, Princess Thomas. “We’re devastated & overwhelmed with the news of losing one of our loved ones, Chace.”

Chace’s survivors have raised more than $9,500 toward a $14,000 goal as of noontime Tuesday, their Go Fund Me account showed.

Services are planned for July 25, according to the GoFundMe campaign.
