Stretch of major road to close in Sacramento County for 5 days. When & where
Sacramento County will close part of a major local roadway for five days due to railroad repairs.
The Sacramento County Department of Transportation will shut down a stretch of Twin Cities Road just outside of Galt so Union Pacific Railroad can make repairs to its train tracks, the county agency said in a Thursday, July 24 news release.
The five-day closure will allow Union Pacific to “make necessary adjustments to the track elevation to fix the uneven pavement at the crossing,” county officials said in the release.
Once that work is completed, county road crews will repave the roadway to “give travelers a smoother crossing over the train tracks,” the release said.
Here’s what to know:
Where is Sacramento County road closure?
The county Transportation Department will close Twin Cities Road from a half mile west of Highway 99 to Christensen Road, according to the release.
The site of the closure is near the city of Galt’s Wastewater Treatment Plant and Reclamation Facility.
When will the street be closed near Highway 99?
That section of Twin Cities Road will be blocked off starting on Monday, July 28, and running through Friday, Aug. 1, the county said.
Which detours can I take to avoid repair work?
According to the Sacramento County Department of Transportation, drivers can take detours to get around the road closure.
Motorists heading east on Twin Cities can travel south on Christensen Road before going east on Spring Street and north back on West Stockton Boulevard toward Twin Cities, the release said.
Message boards will be placed along the route leading to the closure to guide drivers.
“Residents living near the repair work will still have access to their homes,” the county Transportation Department said.
