Two people were killed in a rollover crash Sunday after being ejected from their vehicle that hit an embankment south of Placerville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Gerald Escobosa, 73, was driving about 7:15 p.m. a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder on Highway 49, near Post Street, with two passengers. The SUV struck an embankment and overturned, blocking Highway 49, said Officer Hugo Council, a spokesperson with the CHP’s Placerville office.

Escobosa, and 72-year-old passenger Sally Bishop, were ejected from the vehicle, Council said. Both died from their injuries.

Another passenger, a 72-year-old man, was taken to Marshall Hospital with minor injuries, Council said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
