Roadway fatality

A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday morning in a collision with a truck in Elk Grove, according to Elk Grove Police Department.

The fatal crash happened about 6:15 a.m. along Elk Grove Florin Road just north of Campbell Road, said police officials in a statement Friday.

The driver of a pickup truck towing a trailer traveling north on Elk Grove Florin was making a U-turn into the southbound lane when the motorcycle struck the truck broadside, department officials said.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle on impact and sustained fatal injuries, police officials said. Medical responders pronounced the motorcylist dead at the scene.

The person’s name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin by Sacramento County Coroner’s officials.

The stretch of Elk Grove Florin Road was closed through the morning while authorities investigated the fatal wreck. The road opened in both directions about noon, said Elk Grove police.

Police continue to investigate the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call Elk Grove Police Department’s traffic bureau at 916-478-8143.
