Cal Fire captain held in deadly shootings of woman, child in Cameron Park home
A Cal Fire captain suspected of fatally shooting a woman and child in their Cameron Park home late Thursday was arrested by authorities in Mono County, El Dorado County Sheriff’s officials said Friday.
Darin McFarlin, 47, was taken into custody without incident in Mono County just after midnight and taken back to El Dorado County Jail where he now faces two counts of murder in the deadly shootings, said sheriff’s officials. McFarlin is being held without bail in connection with the slayings.
McFarlin, identified as a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection captain, according to his LinkedIn page and Cal Fire records, has been employed with the agency since 2000 and worked for the Amador-El Dorado unit.
El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies were called about 9 p.m. Thursday to the home in the 3000 block of Oakwood Road in Cameron Park, finding a woman dead from gunshot wounds and a child with gunshot wounds who later died at a hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“The juvenile was provided immediate medical care and transported to a local area hospital where he was unfortunately pronounced deceased,” El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Friday morning.
Coroner’s officials identified the woman who was killed as 29-year-old Marissa N. Divodi-Lessa, of Shingle Springs, the Sheriff’s Office said in a Saturday morning update. Sheriff’s officials in the update said the juvenile victim’s identity would not be released.
A second child in the home was found uninjured by deputies.
Investigators identified McFarlin as a person of interest in the fatal shootings with authorities finding him several hours later in Mono County, a nearly four-hour drive southeast of El Dorado County.
