Sheriff’s detectives arrested a man on suspicion of homicide in connection with a shooting Tuesday in a south Sacramento neighborhood where an argument with an acquaintance escalated to gun violence.

Okouava Saelee, 51, was found and arrested on Wednesday after detectives obtained and served a warrant for his arrest, according to the a news release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, as of Wednesday afternoon, had not released the name of the man killed in the shooting. Coroner officials will release his name and age after his family has been notified.

The shooting was reported about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 5900 block of 39th Street near Mascot Avenue. Deputies arrived, found the man with gunshot wounds and began providing medical aid. Medics arrived and took the wounded man to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the shooting investigation. Sheriff’s officials said the detectives learned Saelee had an argument with an acquaintance, before Saelee grabbed a gun from his vehicle and shot the acquaintance several times.

On Wednesday afternoon, Saelee remained in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail. His arraignment hearing in Sacramento Superior Court had not yet been scheduled. He was deemed ineligible for bail.
