Motorcyclist who died during pursuit by Citrus Heights police identified

A motorcyclist who died during a Citrus Heights police chase on Sept. 8 has been identified.

Roseville native Devin James Newton, 28, died during a police pursuit after he crashed into another vehicle, according to Sacramento Coroner’s Office records.

An officer was preparing to stop Newton near Antelope Road and Wonder Street when he fled.

Police officials said Newton ran stop signs and traffic signals and turned off his headlights during the chase. A Sacramento Police Department helicopter was called to assist in the pursuit.

According to Citrus Heights police, Newton collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Antelope Road and Mariposa Avenue.

Newton was ejected following the collision and pronounced dead at the scene, Citrus Heights police said.
