Eight-story apartment complex planned for Sacramento midtown parking lot. See where
A developer plans to build an eight-story affordable housing apartment complex with 84 units at a midtown Sacramento parking lot.
San Diego-based Community Housing Works plans to build the complex at 1511-1517 I St., across from the Memorial Auditorium, according to an application filed with the city earlier this month. That developer currently owns the lot as well.
The project will include 70 one-bedroom units and 14 two-bedroom units, the application said. The first floor will not have retail space, but instead have a conference room, mail room, and other tenant amenities.
Representatives from Community Housing Works did not immediately respond to emails for comment asking when construction would start.
Also in midtown, Roseville-based Greyscale Architecture has applied to the city to renovate an existing masonry warehouse into a two-story six-unit apartment complex.
That project, at 1220 F St., falls under the city’s City’s Ministerial Infill Housing application process, said Kelli Trapani, a city spokeswoman. Therefore, it the project meets the development and design standards, it will be approved by staff and won’t need to go to City Council or Planning Commission.
A representative from Grayscale did not immediately return an email seeking comment on whether the units would be market rate or affordable, and when construction would start.
The new developments come as the city of Sacramento is lagging behind its housing goals. Last year, the city issued 407 housing permits for new units for extremely low or very low-income tenants, a city report stated. That was less than half its goal of 1,308 units for the year.
