Sacramento police make arrest in Meadowview fatal hit-and-run case
A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian in Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood last month, police said.
The crash occurred around 5 a.m. Oct. 25 near the intersection of Florin Road and 24th Street. Officers responded and found a 60-year-old unhoused man who had been struck by a vehicle. Fire personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has yet to release the victim’s name.
Police said in an update Saturday following “tedious” work by the department’s crash investigators that they arrested Geoffrey Keno Haenggi of Sacramento on suspicion of hitting the man, as well as “numerous firearm related charges.”
Haenggi was booked Wednesday and remains in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail for the unrelated charges, which include a probation violation.
He appeared Friday in Sacramento Superior Court to hear the charges, but the hearing was continued to Dec. 9. He also faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and being prohibited from owning a firearm, according to jail records.
