Motorist dead after being pulled from crash on I-5 connector in South Natomas

Roadway fatality

A driver was killed Monday afternoon in a crash on the Interstate 5 connector to Interstate 80 in South Natomas, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred as the driver was traveling northbound on I-5 along the transition to eastbound I-80, CHP and fire officials said.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 4:30 p.m. and found the vehicle overturned on its roof with major damage, according to CHP dispatchers. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

At least one lane of traffic was blocked while Sacramento Fire Department crews extricated the driver from the car.

The northbound roadway was cleared and reopened just before 5:20 p.m., CHP officials said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the driver’s identity after next of kin are notified.
