Flight delays, cancellations at Sacramento airport as winter storm wallops US

A heavy winter storm across most of the United States has resulted in some flight delays and cancellations at Sacramento International Airport.

As of 2:14 p.m. Sunday, 35 flights had been delayed and 17 canceled in or out of the airport, FlightAware reported.

Southwest Airlines had delayed 21 flights and canceled six, while American Airlines had delayed no flights and canceled five. Delta Air Lines reported four canceled flights with one delayed flight, and United Airlines delayed four flights and canceled two flights.

Alaska Airlines had delayed three flights. Frontier Airlines and SkyWest had delayed two flights each, while Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air announced one delayed flight each.

Flights bound for Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta and Washington, D.C., were among those affected. But some flights within California were also delayed or canceled.

Winter storm grips nation

An intense storm brought heavy snow and dangerous freezing rain to most of the United States on Sunday, ABC News reported.

Winter storm warnings were issued in Dallas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; St. Louis, Missouri; Louisville, Kentucky; Cleveland, Ohio; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; and Boston.

More than 1 million customers are without power, ABC News reported, with Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas hit the hardest.

Heavy snow is expected to hit the Northeast by Sunday night.
