- Assassination charge: Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, was formally charged with attempting to assassinate the president after allegedly trying to breach a security perimeter at the Washington Hilton, shooting a law enforcement agent protected by a bulletproof vest. He was arraigned Monday in federal court.
- Gas prices keep climbing: California drivers are paying about $5.95 per gallon, roughly $1.84 above the national average. According to the price-tracking website and app GasBuddy, prices will rise further as oil hovers around $101 per barrel amid stalled U.S.-Iran talks.
