“There was a hard closure of Rock Creek Road for approximately 2 hours, but the roadway is now open to all traffic,” the social media post said. “MFPD was assisted by El Dorado County Fire Protection District, CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit, and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.”

Officials from the Mosquito Fire Protection District said that their social media post is to remind visitors that the swimming areas beneath the Rock Creek Bridge can be very dangerous.

“The main pool contains a low-head dam hydraulic that creates a powerful ‘washing machine’ effect, making it very difficult to escape once caught in it,” the social media post said. “We urge everyone to use caution when visiting natural recreational areas and to be aware of the hazards present.”
