77-year-old Sacramento pedestrian killed on Florin Road identified by coroner

Pedestrian fatality

A man struck and killed while on foot last week in south Sacramento has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Johnny Lee Clay, 77, of Sacramento, died in the collision reported about 2:35 a.m. Friday on eastbound Florin Road west of Florin Perkins Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

CHP South Sacramento officials said Clay was in the eastbound lane when he was struck. Investigators said it was unclear whether he was attempting to cross the roadway.

The driver was unable to see Clay before the collision, according to CHP. After the crash, the driver pulled over and called 911. Emergency responders pronounced Clay dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the collision, CHP officials said.
