Tens of thousands lose power in Placer County outage, PG&E says

Power outage

Widespread power outages hit the Sacramento area Saturday morning, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

As of 9:30 a.m., about 40,000 PG&E customers were without power in Placer County and more than 3,600 were affected in El Dorado County, according to the PG&E online outage website.

More than 5,000 customers were impacted near Granite Bay, according to PG&E’s outage map, which, as of 9 a.m., said power is expected to be restored in the morning hours. Auburn is also heavily affected with the same anticipated timeline.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said drivers should treat intersections with nonfunctional traffic signals as a four-way stop. The agency also said it’s responding to an increased number of calls because of power-loss triggers.

“Please be patient with one another and allow extra travel time as crews work to address the outage,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement on social media.
