Tens of thousands lose power in Placer County outage, PG&E says

Power outage

Widespread power outages hit the Sacramento area Saturday morning but were largely resolved before noon, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

About 40,000 PG&E customers were without power at 9:30 a.m. in Placer County and more than 3,600 were affected in El Dorado County, according to the PG&E online outage website. More than 5,000 of those customers were near Granite Bay, according to PG&E’s outage map, with Auburn also heavily affected.

Crews worked to fix the outages. Shortly before 11:45 a.m., the number of Placer County customers without power was less than 775, according to the company’s outage map, and the El Dorado County outage was largely resolved.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said drivers should treat intersections with nonfunctional traffic signals as a four-way stop. The agency also said it’s responding to an increased number of calls because of power-loss triggers.

“Please be patient with one another and allow extra travel time as crews work to address the outage,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement on social media.
