Coroner identifies Sacramento man killed in Rancho Cordova shooting

The man shot and killed in broad daylight Saturday outside a Rancho Cordova apartment complex was identified Sunday as 19-year-old Albert Alexander.

Alexander, of Sacramento, was shot about 2:40 p.m. Saturday near the front of a gated apartment complex with tan walls in the 9800 block of Lincoln Village Way.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deparment reported receiving calls at 2:43 p.m. from witnesses who reported hearing several gunshots in the area. When deputies arrived, spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman said, they found a man who had been shot.

Witnesses said they saw the man speaking with someone inside a light-colored sedan before the gunfire began, Bowman said, but the car drove off before deputies arrived.

Alexander was pronounced dead at an area hospital. He was identified by his mother, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office said.

According to Facebook, Alexander was a student at Sacramento City College and had worked at several area fast food restaurants including a McDonald’s and Taco Bell. He was known to his friends and family as “Al.”

Authorities provided no information about possible suspects.
