Roseville police find $1,600 of counterfeit cash in trunk after broken taillight stop

Roseville police arrested a man Monday after locating more than $1,500 in counterfeit cash in the trunk of his vehicle.

An officer initiated a traffic stop for a broken taillight and made contact with the vehicle’s two occupants, who were both on probation out of Sacramento County, the Roseville Police Department said in a Facebook post.

A second officer arrived at the scene for a search of the vehicle, and the two officers discovered “$1,600 in fake U.S. currency as well as materials for making counterfeit bills” in the trunk, the post said.

Police also determined that the driver, identified as Justin Rawluk, 36, had a suspended license due to a DUI-related charge, the department said.

Rawluk was booked into the Placer County jail for driving with a suspended license, charges related to the counterfeit currency and drug-related charges, Roseville police said. He is being held on $65,000 bail, jail records show.

Sacramento County court records show Rawluk was convicted of misdemeanor petty theft and felony assault for two separate incidents in 2017, the latter resulting in his formal, searchable probation.
