Sacramento man sentenced for role as getaway driver in 2018 murder of Lodi doctor

A Sacramento man convicted earlier this year of second-degree murder in connection with the 2018 shooting of a popular Lodi podiatrist was sentenced this week to 15 years to life in prison.

Raymond Jacquett was among four suspects, three of them from Sacramento, arrested in September 2018 on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder for their alleged involvement in the death of Dr. Thomas Shock on Aug. 1, 2018, which prosecutors called an “execution-style” slaying.

Found guilty by a jury in San Joaquin County this July, Jacquett was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison, the district attorney’s office said in a news release Tuesday. Jacquett faced a maximum of 25 years to life.

“The insidious nature of this execution-style murder demands justice for all involved,” San Joaquin County District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar said in a prepared statement.

The DA’s news release says Jacquett was the getaway driver in the fatal shooting.

Shock, 67, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in his Lodi home. Shock retired shortly before the shooting, The Record of Stockton reported at the time.

Judge Lauren Thomasson handed down the sentence in San Joaquin County Superior Court.

Trial for Jacquett’s co-defendants – Robert Elmo Lee of Lodi, and Christopher Anthony Costello and Mallory Stewart, both of Sacramento – is scheduled to begin Feb. 25, 2020.
