Man arrested after alleged shooting threat to West Sacramento daycare, police say

A man was arrested Friday morning for allegedly threatening a shooting at a West Sacramento daycare, authorities said. No one was hurt.

Officers at 6:51 a.m. to a call reporting that a man was threatening a shooting at the Academy 4 Kids preschool and daycare on West Capitol Avenue, and the daycare was locked down, according to West Sacramento police spokesman Sgt. Eric Angle.

Police arrived to the scene within one minute and located the suspect a short distance away, Angle said.

The incident started Thursday when officers were called to the daycare for a report of trespassing, Angle said.

The subject had left the area Thursday and officers did not search for him, but he returned to the daycare early Friday, Angle said.

Corey Fields, 53, whom Angle described as a “transient, homeless individual,” was arrested Friday without incident. Angle said investigators believe the man may have made the threat in response to school officials calling the police to report his Thursday trespassing incident. Fields did not have a gun in his possession, police said.

“He was taken into custody for terrorist threats, which just means felony threats,” Angle said. “He didn’t have a gun on him, and we don’t believe he had the ability to acquire a gun at that moment.”

Fields will be booked into the Yolo County jail.
