Two Yuba City men arrested for ax attack on man sleeping in vehicle, authorities say
Sutter County sheriff’s deputies arrested two men last week after an ax attack that left a victim seriously injured.
Deputies responded around 10 p.m. Dec. 10 to a disturbance on Second Street in Yuba City, and arriving officers found a man with “major head injuries,” the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. He was taken to a hospital but is expected to survive.
Investigators determined two people forced their way into a parked vehicle. The attackers then pulled out the victim, who had been sleeping inside the vehicle, and assaulted him using an ax, according to the news release.
Sheriff’s detectives identified the suspected attackers as Devin Brown, 21, and Kenneth Dunkle, 18, both of Yuba City. Brown and Dunkle were arrested and booked Friday into the Sutter County jail.
Brown faces a charge of attempted murder while Dunkle faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
Dunkle remains in custody on $20,000 bail, and Brown is being held with no possibility of bail due to an outstanding warrant out of Yuba County, according to Sutter County jail logs. Both are due to appear in court Tuesday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office is still working to determine a motive for the assault.
