Elk Grove police still seek suspect in apparent shootout that sent victim to hospital
Elk Grove police continue to seek a suspect after a weekend shooting that left a victim with two gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening..
Authorities now describe Sunday’s incident as a gunfight, with the shots following an argument outside an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Renwick Avenue around 9:15 a.m., according to a news release by the Elk Grove Police Department.
Officers were responding to an initial 911 call about the shooting when dispatch received a second call from a clerk at a nearby gas station on Laguna Boulevard. Police and fire personnel determined the male victim was shot once in the arm and once in the leg, according to the news release. He was transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
After preliminary investigation, Elk Grove police believe the victim and suspect were involved in an argument outside the apartment building on Renwick Avenue when the suspect “pulled out a firearm and began firing multiple times at the victim, hitting the victim twice,” the news release said.
“The victim then retrieved a firearm from his person and shot back at the suspect,” the release continued. It was not clear whether the suspect was also struck by gunfire.
The victim then escaped in his vehicle and drove to the gas station, while the suspect and one other person fled before officers arrived to the apartments.
Police describe the suspect as a white man, between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-4, with a thin build.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the Elk Grove Police Department’s communication center at 916-714-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
