Two arrested after 110-mph chase on I-80 ends in Roseville following shooting, sheriff says

Two 19-year-old men were arrested last week after reports of a shooting turned into a high-speed chase through Placer County on Interstate 80, ending with a crash and brief foot pursuit in Roseville.

Deputies responded Jan. 9 to a report of shots being fired from a vehicle near Lawnview Avenue in Loomis, and sought a dark-colored Subaru Outback in connection with the shooting, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday in a Facebook post.

The Subaru failed to pull over after an attempted stop, then “took off on Interstate 80, leading deputies on a high-speed chase, and on multiple occasions, drove in the opposite lane of traffic,” the post said.

The Sheriff’s Office says the suspect vehicle reached speeds near 110 mph before it eventually lost control, crashing into a field near Rocky Ridge Drive in Roseville.

The front passenger fled the crashed vehicle on foot, and a pursuing deputy “noticed a black Glock in his hand,” the Sheriff’s Office said in the social media post. The suspect threw the handgun and a magazine away during the foot chase, before he was caught and arrested, authorities said.

The passenger was identified by sheriff’s officials as Gage Krigbaum of Antelope, and the driver was identified as Clayton Baker of Roseville. Two other occupants of the vehicle, one of whom was a minor, were detained .No one was injured, sheriff’s officials said.

Krigbaum and Baker were both booked into the South Placer jail on the night of Jan. 9 on numerous charges. Krigbaum’s charges include discharge of a firearm from a motor vehicle; carrying a loaded, stolen firearm; child endangerment; possession of a controlled substance; and resisting arrest. Baker faces a charge of fleeing a peace officer by willfully driving on the wrong side of a highway, jail records show.

Each suspect’s bail is set at $500,000.
