The suspect in at least five Sacramento-area bank robberies has been arrested, police said Thursday.

Jonathan Faires was linked to the Jan. 21 robbery at the Bank of America in the 1100 block of Alhambra Boulevard, as well as four earlier robberies and one attempted robbery, the Sacramento Police Department said in a tweet.

In an earlier news release that included a surveillance photo of Faires, police had sought the man following a Dec. 2 robbery at a U.S. Bank branch in the 3400 block of Broadway. The man demanded money from an employee and fled on foot, police said at the time, and no weapon was seen.

Faires, 33, was booked Jan. 22 and is in custody at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove. He is ineligible for bail.

Sacramento Superior Court records show Faires faces five counts of second-degree robbery and three counts of sending fake bombs, though it was not clear how the false explosives may have been related to the bank robberies.

The FBI assisted in the investigation, police said.
